Please describe your project in more detail.

San Diego ICO is an all-volunteer program of the Sierra Club dedicated to providing outdoor experiences to low-income youth who would not otherwise have the opportunity to actively engage in nature.  Our goals are to help these children learn about the natural history of Southern California; challenge themselves physically; learn how to enjoy wilderness safely; and develop a desire to explore, enjoy, and protect open spaces near San Diego.  We are seeking funding for 30 hiking and snorkeling trips and 5 camping trips with approximately 400 youth participants. We are planning trips to Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the Laguna Mountains, and Joshua Tree National Park.
