Please describe your project in more detail.

Hammond Elementary is located in Chicago, IL. 91% of students at Hammond Elementary qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In class, students are learning about relationships between animals and plants within ecosystems. During their visit to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, students will explore the ponds, open dunes, oak savanna and bog. There students will observe water, wind and waves in action and learn how they work together to form mountains of sand. Playing in the National Park Service's first Nature Play Zone will be a great way for students to enjoy a hands-on nature experience. Finally, hiking in the Pinhook Bog, students will discover this unique ecosystem that includes insect-eating plants.

Your donation will help cover bus transportation for 53 4th grade students to visit Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Every dollar raised will be matched 1-to-1 by the National Park Service Centennial Challenge Fund to cover other fees associated with this trip.
